Money has value. Because back then, they traded. That grew into problems. So that’s why they made money. In the US there’s bills. Different kinds of countries have different kinds of money. In the US, after all of the trading, they made coins and dollar bills so we could have value to buy things. First coins came in, then they made the dollar bills. Coins have different values. A penny is one cent. A dime is ten cents. A nickel is five cents. A quarter is twenty five cents. A half dollar is fifty cents and it keeps going. Coins are made from metal and coins come from many places. A mint is where they make the quarters and nickels, dimes, pennies, half-dollars and all coins. The ridges on the coins are made so you cannot scrape off the metal from the sides of the coin to make more money. The dollar bill is green and yellow. It is kind of strong and it makes a crumbly noise when you squish it all together. The bill has all different letters and numbers so no one can do a copy. On the front, the stamp is black and the letter is black. The stamps are all different letters. The letters represent the banks. It is signed by the treasurer of the United States under where the numbers are at. On the back, on the left, next to the "O," the pyramid was half-made and the eye is the watchful gaze of God. The pyramid has a circle around it. Dollar bills are made in Washington DC. After they are pressed and bundled, they are shipped off. Paper money is made of 75% linen and 25% cotton. This formula lasts longer than paper because if you get paper a little bit wet it is ruined. Ruined money use to be burned up but then because of pollution now it is shredded. Money has been turned in bitten by mice, dogs, even a cow. Now you have a clue about coins and bills so now you can go teach other kids!

Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party came into power in1933. The Jews were not the only people that the Nazis killed. They killed anyone they felt more superior of, for example homosexuals, the disabled and Slavic people.
The ghetto was filled with thousands of people from all over Poland and other places in Europe. The Jews were heavily guarded by the German soldiers and lost their freedom. They didn’t have much food, a loaf of bread had to last them seven days. They were separated from their families and were treated as slaves. They were forced to wear the Star of David on their clothes, so the Nazi can recognize them as Jews.
The Jews and the other people were sent to concentration camps by Hitler and the Nazis. In some camps they were told to undress out of their clothes and lay down on the dead bodies in the ditches. Then a German police man would come and shoot the Jews in the neck with a submachine gun. In other camps, they would trick the Jews into showering in hydrochloric acid. I went to go see the roman forum it was humungous, it was like a mansion. I got to Roma by train, the train station was called Stazione Termini. When I got off the train station I found a restaurant. I went in and the first thing I looked at was the menu. They were serving pasta, meatballs, fish, salad, porchetta, and penne. The special was pasta with vodka sauce and a side of ceaser salad. I ordered the special and then I met this guy his name was Rico. He was sitting in a booth and I was sitting to the booth next to him. I was excited because I was thinking about maybe he could travel with me. I asked him if he wanted to come travel with me and he said, “Yes, I would love to!” Then we went to the other city called Sicily.
July 15,2002 Location: Sicily, Italy
I just arrived in Sicily it was so cool at the boat station. I met a woman named Mimi. She was going to Sardinia. Rico and I hoped she got there safe. She was nice and excited to go on a vacation. Next Rico and I went to a lot of restaurants. The restaurant names were: Spinnato, Cin-Cin, and Cucina Papoff. We loved the Italian food. Then we went to a palio (palio means a costume festival of medieval l knights and other events). We had fun at the palio but I wish my brother was there to look at the fun stuff with me. I left Sicily by boat but I didn’t know that we had to jump off the boat and scuba dive to Bari.
July 18, 2002 Location: Bari, Italy
Rico and I jumped off the boat but we forgot our scuba diving stuff so we had to go back to the boat and get the scuba diving gear. Then we finally got to Bari and we were tired so we got a hotel and we slept until the next day. Later that day, we went shopping because we had wet clothes. Rico bought a wardrobe and I bought a few pairs of clothes for my other trip and this trip. Then we met some pirates and they tried to pickpocket us. Afterwards we saw those same pirates and Rico and I pickpocketed them. We found a lot of money and his driver’s license for a boat. Time to go to the next city!

Hitler thought that Jews were weak and were trying to make Germany weak to. Hitler intimidated and abused people who did not fallow his beliefs. The Nazi party eliminated Jew's political, legal, and civil rights. The law of the restoration of the professional civil service meant Jews couldn't work for the government or city. Nazis made four hundred regulations to restrict Jews lives such as barring them from public schools, forbidding theme from being doctors, not allowing them to marry Germans, forbidding theme to vote, and they had to identify there selves. They had armed resistance by Jews and none Jews in hiding. Jews were face with many obstacles such as families and comities being punished for any act of individual resistance. Another way that Jews resisted was by smuggling food, medicine, sending letters to each other and clothing. Jews maintained hope by having schools, infirmaries, prayer services, libraries, concerts, and theater performances in the ghetto. They also kept hope by helping each other. In 1933 Adolf Hitler came into power. He suspended freedom of speech, freedom of the press and freedom of religion. Hitler took most of the rights from Jews. He then later started to take them into concentration camps and ghettos killing 6 million Jews and 11 million in all. The persecution of Jews ended in 1945 when the Allies attacked Germany. Hitler did not want to be killed by the Allies so he killed himself.
Las Vegas has been around for about 1300 years. The land was a source of water for Native Americans. Then Rafeal Rivera from Spain discovered the area of Las Vegas in 1829. He named it “Las Vegas” because it means “the Meadows” in Spanish. It was an oasis. An oasis is a place to stop and rest by water. There was a lot of water there and the rest of the land was a desert. Wild grass grew there too. The water bubbled in the ground springs.
In 1907 people put in the first ground water well. The well caused the water to be all used up by people and make a drought. That’s how it became a dry desert. Today Las Vegas gets 90% of its water from the Colorado River from Lake Mead.
Nelson Mandela is smart. He lived in South Africa. His family called him Buti. Buti’s Dad lost his job and they became poor. Buti’s teacher changed his name to Nelson. His father died when he was 9. When he was a grown man in college, Nelson protested for better food. Nelson got expelled by the principal. In the past, black people had to carry pass books and they had to live in separate places. Nelson tried to stop people from having to carry pass books. He wanted everybody to be treated the same. Some people didn’t like Nelson’s words, so he stayed in jail for 27 years. He became president in 1994. Now, Nelson has a charity for disabled children. Nelson likes reading, and talking to his grandchildren.
The Kamikaze’s killed about 4,900 and wounded 4,800 during WWII. Kamikaze’s followed Bushido because they believe in loyalty by giving their life to their country. Bushido is a way of being loyal to the emperor. To perform Bushido you have to prepare to fight in any battle and have no fear of death. If the samurai’s died in battle it was honorable and it brought honor to your family. Bushido is a name for the Samurai Code. It means “way of the warrior.” Seven core virtues the samurai’s had to live by were: • Justice/making the right decision • Bravery/Courage • Benevolence (taking care of people) • Respect • Honesty • Honor • Loyalty, being faithful, and being devoted. Did you know if a samurai warrior does not live by the seven virtues they can gain honor again by performing Seppuku? Seppuku is a way of killing themselves.
During WWII Kamikaze pilots still used the Samurai Code. Kamikaze means “divine wind.” Men signed up for a special unit and they were trained to crash their airplanes into ships doing as much damage as possible. Before they died, they would write a poem like the Samurai warriors did before they died.
About 5,000 Japanese soldiers signed up to be a Kamikaze pilot. Japanese students, from early ages, were taught that their leader, the emperor, was a living god. To gain honor from the emperor they decided that they would be a Kamikaze pilot for their families own good. After WWII, up to ten years later, they found Japanese soldiers living on deserted islands in the Pacific. This shows that even after the war they still followed the Samurai Code and kept fighting. Others were found fighting after WWII ended, in small groups against countries like Guam. This shows honor because they are honoring their code and won’t give up.
Also, in the battle of Iwo Jima, the Japanese soldiers fought using the Bushido Code. They showed bravery because they did not have good weapons, the US had better weapons than they did, and they still fought. Also, Japanese had about a few thousand people and the US had about 30,000 people. This goes back to courage because even though they had a high chance of losing, they were still willing to fight for their country. When the Japanese would lose a battle they would end up blowing themselves up or what they called Seppuku. They preferred to die than get captured.
Some of the seven virtues are still used today. Most people live by loyalty and some are still willing to die for their country. A lot of people also live with honor, respect, and justice. Most people follow the law, which shows honor to the government. Also, most people make just decisions such as giving themselves an education and not getting in trouble with the law.
"My painting carries with it the message of pain," said Frida.
Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907, in Coyoacan, Mexico. When Frida was a little girl, she felt lonely and had five sisters. Her dad was a photographer and an artist. She painted self-portraits. One day there was an accident and Frida almost died. After the accident, painting saved her again. It keeps her company. Frida's body was badly hurt but survived but Frida's life will never be the same. She did not give up. She continued to paint. Frida died on July 13, 1954. She is important because she painted many famous painting and they were put in the museums. To celebrate her life, people have contests to dress up like Frida.

Persecution
ReplyDeleteBryant Jasso
Six million Jews died during the Holocaust. Eleven million total people died in the holocaust like Gypsies, handy cap people, Jehovah witnesses, and homosexuals. Hitler persecuted these groups of people. Persecution is the punishment or harassment usually of a severe nature on the basis of race, religion, or political opinion in one's country of origin.
In the early 1930's a depression was going on in Germany. Many people were out of work. Adolf Hitler leader of the Nazi party had brain washed Germany into believing that he would make Germany a better country. In 1933 Adolf Hitler came into office and quickly suspended freedom of the press, speech, and assembly. Hitler also suspended people's privacy. Government officials could read any ones mail, listen on phone conversations, and search a privet property without a search warrant. Adolf Hitler was trying to create a master race.
They were also excluded from organizations and professions like being a doctor, lawyer, and government official.
Jews were also physically abused. First they were segregated into ghettos and later taken to concentration camps. Jews were being transported in small cargo trains. Nazis would put from 80-100 people in those small cars. They would have to be standing for four day. Some didn't survive and bodies would be tossed on the road. In the concentration camps they were starved and forced into hard labor. They were beaten and shot some times for no reason at all. The dead bodies of the Jewish people were cremated and Nazis also gassed the Jews.
Jews also fought back against the Nazis.
The Vegas Drought
ReplyDeleteBy Anthony Lococo
Nelson Mandela’s Life
ReplyDeleteBy Angelo A. Sandoval
Bushido-Kamikaze-Seppuku
ReplyDeleteThe Kamikaze’s killed about 4,900 and wounded 4,800 during WWII. It means “way of the warrior.” Seven core virtues the samurai’s had to live by were:
• Justice/making the right decision
• Bravery/Courage
• Benevolence (taking care of people)
• Respect
• Honesty
• Honor
• Loyalty, being faithful, and being devoted.
