I love Mindy's line - the tightrope walker
Kinship Poems 2/24/11
“Ice”
by Alfred Tatum
Too slippery
trying to find my balance
in an environment hostile to my being
Ripping pages out of the bible that I once loved
My soul has been poked too many times
Hot poker-left stains in my heart
Need to find a way to love again
to get off this slippery slope
Quickly losing hope
living on ice will get you every time
I hope it melts before it’s not too late.
“Balance”
by Mindy Erickson
The tightrope walker
Steps carefully
One foot in front of the other
In front of the crowd
Who watch him balance.
He makes it look easy
Like I do
When I multitask:
Work, home, school, church.
Which responsibility is the right priority?
Plan.
Practice.
Perform.
Voila`! Everyone is happy.
You wait for the applause.
“Idea”
by Mindy Erickson
Where did you come from?
Where will you go?
Existence
Existential
Trying to think—
Defining
Just a moment.
Being
Believing
You had a good one once;
Remembering how it felt.
Flowing
Flowering
Do you understand?
Where am I coming from?
Probability
Possibility
Can I put it in your head?
Here it is in mine.
All it needs is the right words
To become
Real.
“Action”
by Alfred Tatum
Trapped in
theory, philosophy,
psychology
Find myself sitting
still in
peace while
the world’s on fire
My thoughts
will not extinguish
the pain others
are feeling
Not another
sentence
Not another
thought
Damn this computer
I am heading
out into the
world.
My first step
in twenty years.
To act is to be.
Alive again!
