I get down on the freezing, long, thick grass. We have a few seconds to go in our Allstar game. The quarterback snaps the ball. I shove the defender back. Then I juke left and sprint. The quarterback looks left so I try to run faster. I smash him and he goes down. I see the football and dive for it as another player tries to shove me out of the way with his body. As we are fighting for the ball, I hear a very loud whistle coming after. My coach calls a time out and I jump back up to celebrate with a couple of teammates and we run to the sidelines. Then our coach tells us about our next play. The referee calls that the time out is over. I get put out as tight end. I sprint forward and then left. I see the ball get thrown. I catch it and run forward. I see another player running at me. I put my shoulders down. I bite my mouth piece as hard as I possibly can and we collide. I get a little banged up in the play, but I run him over. I see the end zone up ahead and I start to slow down. Once I get there, I hear everyone shout. My teammates run towards me and we scream in happiness. I run toward the sidelines and the game is over. We won the Allstar game.
Junior Duck Club 2727 Leo Harris Pkwy Eugene, OR 97401
February 23, 2011
Dear Junior Ducks,
I saw your football team lose the Tostito Bowl. I feel horrible for you. My friend Everett and I are going to apply to your school for college. We know you have an awesome football team! You needed a field goal to tie that Tostito Bowl game.
Here some questions I have for you:
How man championships have you won? Who is the all-time QB for your team? Who is your coach and how long has he been with you? What kind of winter sports does your college play? (like hockey) What’s your mascot’s name? How many students attend your school?
One more thing, please say hi to your mascot from me.

My sister, Shaina, was laughing like mad one day. We were in Shaina’s room. Shaina said, “Let’s go outside.” We went to the store and bought junk food and vegetables. I said, “Shaina, you never buy me junk food. What’s going on?” Then we ran to the house. We rode our bikes to the park with the food and made our sandwiches there and ate half of the time. I and Shaina rode bikes and ate and slid down the slide. We played on the swings. Then we went to the pool next to the park and went on the slippy slide. After that, we went home and the next thing I knew everyone screamed, “Surprise!” I almost forgot it was my third birthday and the best one yet!
Save The Day By Anthony LoCoco Chapter One One day after school Anthony was doing his homework by the fireplace when the Bad Guys snuck in. The Bad Guys are a group of terrible, funny-looking, and creepy animals that are all about stealing things and getting kids in trouble. They snuck up on Anthony. Stanley Shark, their captain, threw Kelly Cat on Anthony. Before Anthony could see anything, Kelly Cat jumped on him and covered his eyes and mouth. Willie Whale, Stanley’s evil minion, popped out the allergic mutating turtle potion and poured it on Timmy Turtle. This made Timmy puff up and become ginormous. Willy Whale helped Kelly Cat get Anthony on board Timmy. Stanley began driving the whole gang back in Timmy like a blimp to their lair in a volcano. When they got there Jack Jackrabbit and Rob Robot were still guarding the place. Rachel Robin is the look out for the good guys in the story. She looks for any trouble. She saw it all happen, so she went to go tell her teammates about kidnapping Anthony. Pluto Platypus is Anthony’s pet. He is the captain of the Secret Agents. The second captain is Ricky Racoon. He is best at sneaking up on people and stealing things. Hammy Hamster is the third captain. He is good at climbing and can hold on to just about anything. Sam Snake is the fourth boss. He’s also good at climbing. He is also sneaky. His slime could stick to almost anything. The other Secret Agents are Elizabeth Elephant, Philly Fly, and Sparky Skunk. Rachel flies through the trap door of Anthony’s basement to tell the secret agents the news. Rachel says, “Pluto, Pluto! The bad guys took Anthony! We have to save him. They took him to their lair in a volcano nearby! I’ll show you! I picked up this map that Kelly Cat dropped.” Pluto said, “Everyone get your gear on, we are going to save Anthony! Wait- Sparky Skunk, go to the living room and do Anthony’s homework before his mom comes home! She can’t know about this!” Pluto Platypus and Ricky Raccoon get in their motorcycle. It turns to a jet and the whole team jumps in and heads to the volcano. Hammy Hamster is directing where they go with the map.
One day Luke went to the doctor because his older brother name Steven had to go to the doctor. He had to sit in the waiting room to wait impatiently for Steven. While Luke waited he saw someone come out with a bandage on their arm. Luke thought about it, “What happen to him? That looks painful!” Luke heard someone cry. He slumped down in his chair feeling frightened. When Steven came out they went home. When he got home they both got some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch. He went to the living room to play some board games with Steven. He watched some T.V. then he had some dinner and it was spaghetti with meatballs. The next morning Luke’s mom told him that he had to go to the doctor for a checkup. He ran to his room crying. His brother went to his room and said,“what’s wrong”, Steven said in a soft voice. “I am scared of going to the doctor because when I had to wait for you I saw someone with a bandage on their arm and heard someone cry”, said Luke crying. “Someone got a shot so he had a bandage on his arm, but you are not going to get a shot. There was a baby in there crying ,which is what you heard,” Steven told him.
“Time for your checkup”, yelled his mom from the living room. Luke ran to the living room and put on his coat and shoes. His mom drove Luke to the doctor. When they got there Luke’s mom signed him on the waiting list. Luke and his mom sat down to wait for the doctor to call his name. Luke fearfully thought to himself, “I am going to die!” “Luke,”said the nurse. Luke screamed quietly as they went in. The nurse showed where the doctor was. They went in and saw the doctor. “Hello Luke,” said the doctor. Luke was surprised that the doctor was nice. The doctor looked in his ears, looked in his throat, listen to his heartbeat, and gave him no shot. Before Luke knew it the doctor was done. Luke thought happily, “That was not bad at all!” “Here is your lollipop,” said the doctor handing him a lollipop. “Thank you,” said Luke. When they got home Luke thought about how the doctor was nice. “The doctor isn’t scary after all,” Luke thought happily.
One day I was walking in the mall and I went into Build-a-Bear workshop, a store that sells stuffed animals. I love monkeys and when we walked in my brother pointed out a stuffed monkey. I ran over to it and picked it up; I gave it a red heart and a Spiderman costume, I named it Peter Monkey. My mom asked “why didn’t you give it a White Sox uniform?” Even though I love baseball, I love monkeys more. We drove through the rain and when I came home and I put the monkey down on my bed and ran to dinner. When we were eating a spider came down and bit the stuffed monkey and electricity had struck his heart. Then the monkey got up from the bed and had super strength, Peter Monkey was now better known as Spider Monkey....
What Will the Weather Be? by Christian Miller, Grade 3
Created at http://www.eduplace.com/tales/
Hello, all you monkeys and penguins. I'm Christian Miller with the latest weather forecast.
Today a red front will be running in from Mexico and flying over the northern part of New York causing high winds and falling compasses. Big clouds will love the region south of New Orleans. Look out for a few gray showers. If you're planning on going out this evening, be sure to take along a sturdy book. Tonight the skies will paint and temperatures will explode.
Tomorrow will be crazy. Temperatures could reach a record ten thousand degrees by noon.
A long time ago me and my family took a trip to Carbondale, we went to a farm. The farm was owned by Bobby (Bobby is a girl) and Nathan. They are my cousins. The farm smelled like cows, pigs, chickens, and tractors. I think the smell was pleasant because the city smells are not as fresh. I heard tractors going “vroom, vroom, vroom” and pigs going “snort, snort, snort.”
My cousins looked the same they both had short hair and wrinkly skin. When I got to the farm they said, “WELCOME!” I wasn’t sure what to expect because I’ve never met them before. They were on my dad’s side of the family.
My cousin wanted me and Dylan [Dylan is my brother] to go on the tractor. I was scared because I was three and the tractor was really big. My dad carried me up to the tractor because it was so humungous. It was white and rusty and it had really big wheels. The tractor ride was fun, wobbly, and bumpy.
Then I ate some farmer’s food. It was a little different from city food, but it was still good. I wasn’t sleeping at the farm so I went to a bed and breakfast every day to sleep. One night I was breathing unusual and my mom gave me medicine. Then I was breathing heavier so my mom was going to take me to a hospital but she didn’t know where one was. She finally found one and it was about twenty-five minutes away. Everything is so close in the city it is so far in the country.
I was okay. It was fun being on a farm but I like the city better.
I went to the kitchen to get Spider Monkey a banana. Motor Bear came from the shadows, he was a bear my aunt gave me and must have been struck by lightning too. He is a villain. Motor Bear tied me up and put me into a car, and then he took me to his factory. Motor Bear put me by a pole and there was a bomb with a hundred seconds on it. Spider Monkey soon came to the rescue and kicked Motor Bear out of the window. Spider Monkey untied me and we both jumped out the window to safety, Motor Bear was sent to jail. Later that night I was taking a bath and I heard a squeaking noise coming from the sink…..”Spider Monkey Help!!!”

One day a five year old kid named Kevin went to play with his toys and his dad. He didn’t want to play anymore because he wanted to play some basketball. Then his toys heard Kevin’s car and realized they had been left behind.
Angel, Kevin’s favorite toy, was scared that Kevin left them. Then, Angel remembered “Kevin always comes on Sundays so we’ll be fine.” Angel liked to play football so him and the other toys got the football and started to play. During the game, Angel was tackled so roughly his wing broke.
Then they saw a new toy who introduced himself as Bob. He didn’t like sports because he never played before. Bob sprinted in the game and grabbed the ball. He ran and hid the football in his hide out in a large, hollow tree nearby.
After his steal, it was time for the next part of his plan. Bob built a sports machine to make the ball explode! But Bob had one piece that he couldn’t fit so he lured Mascot, Angel’s sidekick, with his favorite food, sushi. Bob suggested, “I have a deal if you help me put this piece in, I’ll give you back the football.” However Bob was really thinking, “They’re never gonna play football again! Hee, hee!” he laughed evilly to himself.
Just as they put the piece in, a rectangular metal cage dropped down and trapped Mascot. From the field, Angel heard the cage drop down and made a plan to rescue his sidekick. Angel ties the end of a Yo-Yo to the middle of his stomach and was lowered down into the lair from a hole high up in the tree.
Angel calls out, “Forty-two, set… hike!” Bob looks up in surprise, Cheetah dashes in and strips the football from Bob. With Bob being distracted by Cheetah, Angel removes the cage and Mascot escapes. Angel gets pulled back up by the other toys. Angel notices that Bob has a broken leg. “We need to help you.” Mascot shapes Silly Putty into a new leg for Bob. “Stay here in the sun until your leg is dry” Angel tells Bob.
After Bob’s leg dried, all the toys played a game of football. Luckily it was Sunday and Kevin came back for his toys.
Once upon a time there was a forth grade class with a girl named Janna, and two boys named Jake and Anthony. They were all best friends. And one day all of their moms and dads told them they had to go to a tutor. The tutor’s name was Bill. Bill told them they have to have a binder for their work.
Janna went on Friday’s and Saturday’s. She always drew pictures in her favorite binder. Anthony went on Sunday’s and Monday’s. He always wrote about chocolate mint ice cream. Jake went on Wednesday’s and Thursday’s. He always wrote about bacon and pancakes.
Janna made her binder out of words. Anthony made his binder out of fabric. Jake made his binder out of metal.
On Friday, Bill saw Janna drawing pictures. On Sunday, he saw Anthony writing about chocolate ice cream. On Thursday, he saw Jake writing about bacon and pancakes.
He first goes to Janna’s house and says, “Little kid, little kid, bring your binder to class next time!” Then Janna says “My binder is private!” Then Bill says, “I’ll yell and I’ll scream until I get the binder. AHHHHHHH!” Then Janna runs to Anthony’s house.
Bill comes to Anthony’s house and says, “Little kid, little kid, bring your binder to class next time!” Then Janna and Anthony said, “No, our binder is private!” Then Bill says, “I’ll yell and I’ll scream until I get the binder. AHHHHHH!” Then Anthony and Janna run to Jake’s house.
Bill comes to Jake’s house and says, “Little kid, little kid, bring your binder to class next time!” Then they all say together, “No, no, you forty-six year old man! My binder is private!’ Then Bill throws a big tantrum like a little girl.
The next Friday Janna told her mom what Bill did but she didn’t believe it. She had to go to the class and her mother said, “Don’t forget your binder.” She got there and then Bill asked, “Did you bring your binder?” The mom said, “yes, she did.” Then Bill got the eraser out and took her binder, went in the room where they have class and erased the whole thing! She threw a tantrum and Janna told her mother and the mother told Bill “We are not coming here anymore!”
The next Sunday Anthony told his Dad that Bill threw a tantrum at Jake’s house. Then Anthony’s dad believed him. So Anthony’s dad called Bill and said were not coming anymore. The next Thursday Jake forgot about the tantrum that Bill had. Then he went to the clinic. Jake forgot his binder. And Bill said did you bring your binder to class? Jake said no. And Bill stormed out of there and said see you next time little kid!!!!!
Then next Monday Anthony’s dad forgot what he said and said “are you ready to go to your tutor.” Anthony said “you told Bill we weren’t going”. Then Carl (Anthony’s dad) said “no I didn’t and don’t forget to bring your binder”.
Then Monday Anthony goes to the clinic and he happens to see Janna and Jake there too. Anthony says, “Hey? What are you doing here?” Bill said that he wants us all to come to the clinic and talk to us about our binders. Janna and Anthony put all of their papers in Jake’s binder to keep it safe. Then Bill calls Anthony into the room and Bill gets out a pair of scissors and cut Anthony’s fabric binder. But Bill wanted to see what he was writing about and asked Anthony “Where are all your papers?” And Anthony says “I'm not telling you!” Then Bill calls Jake into the room and gets out scissors and an eraser and tries to cut his binder and that doesn’t work and he tried to erase his binder but that doesn’t work. Then he gets out a match and lights it on fire but that doesn’t work! Bill asks, “What is your binder made out of?” Jake says, “It’s made out of metal”
Bill tries to take the binder but Jake is to fast for him. Then Jake goes to tell his mom and dad. And when they heard they made Bill make a new binder for the kids and give them a free tutoring coupon for five years with another tutor.
The Secret Rules of Kids By Janna (Grade 5) Mentor Text: The Secret Knowledge of Grown-Ups And The Secret Rules of Teachers (by Becky)
DO NOT OPEN TOP SECRET!
If you are reading this you should not be, it says top secret! Well I guess I should tell you about the secret rules of kids, but you mustn’t tell anyone. Promise? OK
KID RULE #37:
Do not make us do chores.
OFFICIAL REASON: Kids just don’t feel like it. Or Kids are just tired.
THE TRUTH IS:
Kids are tired of doing what you say. So instead they bungee jump out the window if their house is big. And if your house is small you color or play video games. And sometimes you do a back flip off the wall like in the movie Matrix.
KID RULE #36: Do not go to the mall with us and our friends.
OFFICIAL RULE:
It is embarrassing.
THE TRUTH:
You’re a dorky parent because you wear suspenders and you talk about the 1980’s. You say our clothes look cheap and you say the clothes we shop for look inappropriate. You don’t let me get the same thing twice.
Christopher's Discovery (After he discovered America)
By John Palenik Age 7
Once upon a time there was a world made of half cheese and half rootbeer float. When you finish up half, it fills back up.
Christopher Columbus discovered the half cheese/half rootbeer world. He turned the boat around and said, "Great city!"
He told everybody in town. "Mmmmmm! This is the most delicious city in the world."
"Really?" All the people said.
"Nice discovery Christopher," said a guy with a beard.
Everyone celebrated the discovery by drinking the rootbeer with silly straws from an airplane. They were diving in the rootbeer and trampling the cheese. But not where people were eating and drinking though (that would be gross!).
Anthony is the boy in school that thinks he is all that. He thinks he is the best at everything like soccer and video games. He likes to go around school bragging about himself. Adam was in a bad mood when Anthony started bragging about himself. Adam told Anthony to “shut up” or he would shut him up. Anthony pushes Adam and Adam pushes him back. Anthony swings and misses, but Adam gets him to the floor and starts punching him.
When Mr. Sanchez comes over to break up the fight, but Adam doesn’t want to let go and keeps punching Anthony. Mr. Sanchez gets a good grip on Adam and takes him off Anthony, then drags him down to the principal’s office.
When the principal asks what happened Adam tells him the whole story and says that he doesn’t care if he gets suspended. The principal decides to call in their parents to meet about the fight. The principal tells their parents that they are both suspended for fighting in school.
Anthony and Adam both learned a good lesson that day. Anthony learned not brag about himself, because it can get on other peoples nerves. Adam learned to have patience and to ignore what people have to say.
Pg. 1 Layah was a nine year old girl with a colorful personality. Most people would say she is weird but it never bothered her. She has three cats named Toby, Benny, and Jazzy. Toby is the oldest and the first cat that lived in Layah’s house. He has long white fur with brown spots and a red heart shaped nose and light golden eyes. Then there is Jazzy the middle cat who has long black and white hair, his nose is black like a baby meatball, and he has a golden greenish eye color. Last, Benny the attention hog. He has short grey hair with white stripes around his neck and belly and he has a pink heart shaped nose and has dark golden eyes.
Pg. 2 Layah lives in a pretty little apartment on the second floor. There are trees and bizarre looking plants that surround her complex. Inside the house is cozy and small. In the living room there is a big green couch, a cherry wood coffee table, a big television set, and a sliding door that leads to an earthy looking balcony.
Pg. 3 The alarm goes off in to her favorite song. Layah wakes up and tries gets ready for school. She runs to the bathroom puts her clothes on then brushes her teeth and her long brown hair. Then she walks out the front door and down the stairs. But she stops at the bottom of the concrete stairs and remembers she forgot her breakfast. So she runs back upstairs and looks into the front window that leads to the front room. She sees something strange!
Pg. 4 Toby is sitting in the rocking chair reading the news paper and drinking coffee. He is wearing big black nerd glasses and a red tie around his neck. Jazzy I wearing bunny ears, navy blue boots, and a red superman cape. Benny is wearing a striped helicopter hat and an orange sweat shirt!
Pg. 5 Layah decided to skip school that day and spy on her three cats. She grabbed the cooler by the side of their porch and set it next to a window were she could sit and still see them.
Pg. 6 Benny decided to lounge on the couch all day and watch Animal Planet and eat salad with bacon bits in it, which Layah thought was strand and couldn’t control her laughter! Jazzy decided to run around the house with a plastic bag around his head that happened to scare him a lot. Then Toby decided to play dress up, well at least what he calls the smart version of dress up.
Pg. 7 When Benny, Jazzy, and Toby first started talking to each other Layah nearly fell of the cooler in shock. Jazzy started a conversation about what weird things humans do, so Toby got some paper and pens from Layah’s dresser and started naming stuff like eating at a table instead of on the floor and taking showers instead of licking themselves clean.
Pg. 8 When it was time for Layah to come home she opened the door and pretended school was great. She thought it was funny how they suddenly looked normal again. How could they have changed so fast, Layah wondered? Maybe their aliens, maybe they are robots, maybe their magic, maybe they have lightning fast superpowers; she wondered how they did it.
Pg.9 When it was time eat dinner she set some tuna out for them and studied them eat carefully, but it seemed perfectly normal. Layah couldn’t hold her urges back any more and blurted out “I know what you guys do when we all leave the house in the morning!” But they just look up and pretend to act normal.
“I am talking to you guys Benny, Jazzy, and Toby!”
“I know you guys can talk I seen it with my own eyes!” But they still remained acting normal and went outside to play.
Pg. 10 But she knew they would never tell her the truth and she would live life in this sort of mystery game not knowing what would happen next.
Spud Escapes from the Rich Man and the Butler By Angelo A. Sandoval, Grade 4
Long ago, there once was a brave potato named Marty. He is an old potato and wants to teach you a lesson about not talking to or going with strangers.
One Wednesday, Marty was on his way to summer school. Marty was not paying attention and he tripped on a butler’s shoe. Marty hit his head on the sidewalk and the butler picked him up. They went to the rich man’s house. When Marty woke up, he saw that the creepy, rich man was a bad person. The rich man was trying to peel Marty and tried to turn him into French fries.
Then Marty said, “Who are you?”
The rich man and the butler laughed. “We are going to taste you to see if you are good and make you into French Fries.”
Marty realized what the rich man was planning and said, “If you catch me first.”
The butler caught Marty. Then Marty escaped from the butler’s hand.
Marty saw a ghost potato in the mirror and the ghost potato said, “Listen to me, the rich man is a bad person. He baked me into French fries 3 million years ago when he was a young kid.” Marty said, “I know!”
Then Marty sneaked into the bathroom to get toilet paper and to write his plan to get rid of the rich man and the butler. Then his old friend with the eye patch came out of nowhere and the root with the eye patch said, “Do you need help?”
Marty said, “Yes I need help from the rich man.”
The rich man tried to grab Marty from the bathroom and tried to put him in the frying pan. His friend with the eye patch jumped up and got the rich man and the rich man screamed. His friend used his eye patch and got Marty with his force powers.
While Marty was in the air, he pushed the rich man in the pot and he melted. Then Marty said, “Thanks!”
His friend with the eye patch laughed and said, “Goodbye. I’ll be back if any potato needs help. You can call me Sega.”
Then his friend disappeared.
The old potato said, “I am Marty. Remember don’t go with strangers or talk to them because you might get hurt.”
JESSICA AND THE AWFUL, TERRIBLE, ICKY, STICK BAD DAY by Janna (Grade 5) Mentor Text: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
I went to sleep with chocolate candy in my mouth now there's chocolate in my bed. I got out of bed and tripped over my drum sticks and fell right on my face. I could tell it was going to be an awful, terrible, icky, sticky bad day.
At breakfast my brother and sister had pancakes, sausages and a cheese omelet. I had pancakes, sausages, and scrambled eggs. I hate scrambled eggs! I could tell it was going to be an awful, terrible, icky, sticky bad day.
At school, Alex and Joy got “A’s” on their history papers, and I just got a dumb “D.” In music class, the music teacher told Alex and Joy that they had the leading roles in the school play and told me I should just sing back up. I could tell it was going to be an awful, terrible, icky, sticky bad day.
After school, Joy, Alex, and I went to the dentist. I hate the dentist! The dentist told Alex and Joy that they had perfect teeth and that I’m going to need braces. I hate braces! I could tell it was going to be an awful, terrible, icky, sticky bad day.
When we were hanging around in the muddy parking lot for our mom, Alex pushed me in the dirt and called me a dummy. I pushed him back and said he was an idiot. My mother saw me and scolded me for being dirty and calling Alex an idiot. I would rather be in London.
At the toy store, mom told Joy and Alex they could get anything they wanted because they got “A’s” on their history paper and my mom told me that I could only get one toy that costs a dollar. I would rather be in London.
On the way home, Joy and Alex teased me because they got cool toys. I told Alex he could kick rocks. My mom scolded me and told me to wash my mouth out with soap.
At dinner, Joy and Alex got to pick what we were going to eat and they picked steaks. I hate steaks! Dad got mad at me because I got a “D” on my history paper. I mumbled that I would rather be in London.
After dinner, Joy took the remote from me and changed the TV to an agent show. I hate agent shows!
At night I had to wear my stripped pajamas. I hate those pajamas! The dog wanted to sleep with Joy; I said to the dog that he could sleep outside for all I care.
I knew it was an awful, terrible, icky, sticky, bad day and I would rather be in London.
Hi my name is Caron and I’m a Maltese poodle. Here are the things you need to do to take care of me.

#2. Brush my teeth so they don’t get germs (If you don’t brush my teeth they will fall out and if they fall out I won’t be able to bite and protect myself or you.)
#3.You have to give me baths because if you don’t I will be stinky. Brush my poofy white hair.
#4. Walk me for me to poop and for me to exercise.
#5.Don’t leave me alone because I will feel lonely.

#1. I will not poop where I’m not supposed to poop. #2. I’ll bark to protect you and your family. #3. I’ll lick you to show that I love you too. #4. When you come home from somewhere I will jump on you and wag my tail to show that I missed you. #5.I will be your best friend forever (BFF)!
A Trip to the Bowling Alley A Children’s Story Dedicated to Abria’s Little Brother, Eliakim
Written by Abria Barker Illustrated by Rachel Pomykala
It was a bright sunny day for a field trip.
Eliakim and his classmates were loading the big yellow school bus singing, “The wheels on the bus go round and round…” all the way to the bowling alley.
Everyone yells “We’re here!” with excitement.
Eliakim walks inside to the smell of pizza and the sound of the Skee Ball banging onto the machine.
The class laced up their bowling shoes as tightly as possible.
Eliakim was ready to go when he noticed that David was in the corner all by himself.
Walking up to David, Eliakim asked what was wrong. “I’m too nervous to bowl because people might laugh at me. I have never been bowling in my whole life,” David confessed.
That’s when Eliakim told David to give it a try. “I’ll be there every step of the way!”
“First up, David!” the teacher shouts.
David slowly walks up to the assortment of bowling balls and notices a pattern. Pink, orange, pink, orange…
He grabs the orange ball and runs to his lane and scores a strike.
“Go David!” the children cheered as he broke the world record.
David ran to give Eliakim the biggest hug ever. They both felt like champions.
Part 1 At my playoffs basketball game, there are people walking to the food court, people sitting on the bleachers cheering, and mascots dancing. My basketball teammates and I believed in ourselves that we can do this, but we were a little nervous because this is the final. We wanted to go to the championship like it was the last food on earth. When the referee tossed the ball in the air, everybody started saying “Let’s go, Leo! Let’s go!” I was shooting 3 pointers and lay up’s. In the 4th quarter, it was tied up 55 to 55. Me and my teammates were thinking “what should we do?” Then, I stood up and said “Give me a alley-oop!” Then the teammates said, “Are you sure?” and I said “Yes. Trust me, it’s going to work.” So my best friend John passed the ball to my other friend James. Then, James started running with me so I could get the alley-oop and dunk the ball. So when James threw the ball in the air, I dunked the ball so hard that the back board glass broke off and everybody was cheering for me and screaming my name. “Darrin! Darrin! Darrin!”
Part 2 And that was the greatest day ever. My teammates and I were singing in the locker room saying “We going to the championship! We going to the championship!” The next day I had to go to school. When I first walked in the school building everybody was telling me “good game yesterday” and they were high-fiving me as well. I was so happy, I knew I could make the shot. After math class, my teacher Mr. Daniels told me to come here so I said “Yes Mr. Daniels” “I have some bad news and some good news,” Mr. Daniels said. “What’s the bad news,” I said. “The bad news is that you’re failing math, and if you’re failing math, you won’t be able to play in the championship,” Mr. Daniels said. “What’s the good news?” I said. “The good news is that if you pass this math test Thursday you will be able to play in the championship,” Mr. Daniels said. I was saying in my head “That’s the same day as my championship basketball game.” I felt like someone was doing a prank on me. So I asked “what time you want me to come to your class to do the test?” “At 9:30 a.m. sharp” Mr. Daniels said. So after school the first thing I did when I got to the house is grab my math book out of my book bag and started studying. I studied day and night. I didn’t really fall asleep. I was drinking 12 different kinds of pops and eating 10 bags of chips. I felt like a vampire because vampires do not go to sleep. Thursday, I was ready for the test. I was sleepy, but ready and a little nervous. I was shaking like a little dog when they get their hair cut off. When Mr. Daniels gave me the test, I said in my head “I can do this.” When Mr. Daniels gave me the paper, he said “Good luck.” “I don’t need luck, I’m prepared,” I thought in my head.
Part 3 After the test, all my basketball teammates came in the classroom to see what I got. They were hoping that I was going to play at the championship. I said to Mr. Daniels “What did I get?” while shaking my leg like if my legs were on fire. Mr. Daniels looked at me with a sad face and shook his head. I bit my nails. Then he said “I’m sorry to tell you this.” I was about to cry when Mr. Daniels said “You passed!” I was so scared and shocked. “I was just joking with you, I knew you were going to get scared,” Mr. Daniels said with laughter. “Why did you do that to me?” I said with laughter. Then, my friend James said “You guys know what time it is now?” Then, we all said “Game time!” Three hours later, we were putting our jerseys on getting ready for our game while in the locker room. We were saying in our heads “We can do this!” In the gym, there were people cheering our names and wearing our school colors, sitting on the bleachers. We were going against Simeon high school and they never lost a championship game, so we were a little nervous. “Let’s go!” I said. When the referee tossed the ball in the air, we knew it was go time. 1st quarter Simeon was winning by 7 points, then the 2nd quarter we came back up winning by 3. Then the 3rd quarter we were winning by 1 point. The 4th quarter there was 4.0 seconds, so I called a timeout. Me and my teammates got in a huddle and I told them “Pass me the ball.” They said “Are you sure?” I was saying in my head that if I could lead us through the playoffs, and I studied hard to be in this championship game, I believe I can make us win the championship, too. “Yes, I didn’t let you down first time and I’m never going to do that. Just trust me.” So when I had the ball in my hand, one of the Simeon teammates tried to double-team me. They were running up to me, trying to take the ball from me. With 2 seconds on the clock, I shot it from half court and made it at the buzzer. People were cheering my name and running up to me and picking me up saying “Yay Darrin!” That was the happiest moment of my life.
Our Allstar Game
ReplyDeleteby Bryant Jasso

(like hockey)
What’s your mascot’s name?
How many students attend your school?
One more thing, please say hi to your mascot from me.
Your future awesome all-time QB,
Kiet Jackson

Chapter One
One day after school Anthony was doing his homework by the fireplace when the Bad Guys snuck in.
I picked up this map that Kelly Cat dropped.”
Pluto said, “Everyone get your gear on, we are going to save Anthony! Wait- Sparky Skunk, go to the living room and do Anthony’s homework before his mom comes home! She can’t know about this!”
Pluto Platypus and Ricky Raccoon get in their motorcycle. It turns to a jet and the whole team jumps in and heads to the volcano. Hammy Hamster is directing where they go with the map.
Luke’s First Check-Up
ReplyDeleteby Nick Chiu
Luke fearfully thought to himself, “I am going to die!”
“Luke,”said the nurse.
Luke thought happily, “That was not bad at all!”
“Here is your lollipop,” said the doctor handing him a lollipop.
“Thank you,” said Luke. When they got home Luke thought about how the doctor was nice. “The doctor isn’t scary after all,” Luke thought happily.

The Fun Farm
ReplyDeleteby Jake, age 10

Three Kids and the Big Bad Tutor
ReplyDeleteBy Jake, age 10

The Secret Rules of Teachers (by Becky)
DO NOT OPEN TOP SECRET!
If you are reading this you should not be, it says top secret!
Well I guess I should tell you about the secret rules of kids, but you mustn’t tell anyone. Promise? OK
KID RULE #37:
Do not make us do chores.
OFFICIAL REASON:
Kids just don’t feel like it.
Or
Kids are just tired.
THE TRUTH IS:
Kids are tired of doing what you say. So instead they bungee jump out the window if their house is big. And if your house is small you color or play video games. And sometimes you do a back flip off the wall like in the movie Matrix.
KID RULE #36:
Do not go to the mall with us and our friends.
OFFICIAL RULE:
It is embarrassing.
THE TRUTH:
You’re a dorky parent because you wear suspenders and you talk about the 1980’s. You say our clothes look cheap and you say the clothes we shop for look inappropriate. You don’t let me get the same thing twice.
Christopher's Discovery (After he discovered America)

They are happy. The End.

Layah was a nine year old girl with a colorful personality.
Pg. 2
Layah lives in a pretty little apartment on the second floor. There are trees and bizarre looking plants that surround her complex. Inside the house is cozy and small. In the living room there is a big green couch, a cherry wood coffee table, a big television set, and a sliding door that leads to an earthy looking balcony.
Pg. 3
The alarm goes off in to her favorite song.
Pg. 4
Toby is sitting in the rocking chair reading the news paper and drinking coffee. He is wearing big black nerd glasses and a red tie around his neck. Jazzy I wearing bunny ears, navy blue boots, and a red superman cape. Benny is wearing a striped helicopter hat and an orange sweat shirt!
Pg. 5
Layah decided to skip school that day and spy on her three cats. She grabbed the cooler by the side of their porch and set it next to a window were she could sit and still see them.
Pg. 6
Benny decided to lounge on the couch all day and watch Animal Planet and eat salad with bacon bits in it, which Layah thought was strand and couldn’t control her laughter! Jazzy decided to run around the house with a plastic bag around his head that happened to scare him a lot. Then Toby decided to play dress up, well at least what he calls the smart version of dress up.
Pg. 7
When Benny, Jazzy, and Toby first started talking to each other Layah nearly fell of the cooler in shock. Jazzy started a conversation about what weird things humans do, so Toby got some paper and pens from Layah’s dresser and started naming stuff like eating at a table instead of on the floor and taking showers instead of licking themselves clean.
Pg. 8
When it was time for Layah to come home she opened the door and pretended school was great. She thought it was funny how they suddenly looked normal again. How could they have changed so fast, Layah wondered? Maybe their aliens, maybe they are robots, maybe their magic, maybe they have lightning fast superpowers; she wondered how they did it.
Pg.9
When it was time eat dinner she set some tuna out for them and studied them eat carefully, but it seemed perfectly normal.
Pg. 10
But she knew they would never tell her the truth and she would live life in this sort of mystery game not knowing what would happen next.

ReplyDeleteSpud Escapes from the Rich Man and the Butler
ReplyDeleteBy Angelo A.
He baked me into French fries 3 million years ago when he was a young kid.”
Marty said, “I know!”

ReplyDeleteDear Destiny,
Hi my name is Caron and I’m a Maltese poodle. Here are the things you need to do to take care of me.
#1. Feed me (Dog food)
#6.Play with me and pet me every day. I want to have fun with you. When you pet me I feel like you love me.
If you promise to take care of me, I would promise to:
Sincerely,
Caron
A Trip to the Bowling Alley
ReplyDeleteA Children’s Story
Dedicated to Abria’s Little Brother, Eliakim

Part 1
At my playoffs basketball game, there are people walking to the food court, people sitting on the bleachers cheering, and mascots dancing.
Trust me, it’s going to work.”
So my best friend John passed the ball to my other friend James. Then, James started running with me so I could get the alley-oop and dunk the ball. So when James threw the ball in the air, I dunked the ball so hard that the back board glass broke off and everybody was cheering for me and screaming my name. “Darrin! Darrin! Darrin!”

Part 2
And that was the greatest day ever. My teammates and I were singing in the locker room saying “We going to the championship! We going to the championship!”
The next day I had to go to school.

Part 3
After the test, all my basketball teammates came in the classroom to see what I got. Then, my friend James said “You guys know what time it is now?” Then, we all said “Game time!”
Three hours later, we were putting our jerseys on getting ready for our game while in the locker room. We were saying in our heads “We can do this!”
In the gym, there were people cheering our names and wearing our school colors, sitting on the bleachers.
Just trust me.”
So when I had the ball in my hand, one of the Simeon teammates tried to double-team me. They were running up to me, trying to take the ball from me. With 2 seconds on the clock, I shot it from half court and made it at the buzzer. People were cheering my name and running up to me and picking me up saying “Yay Darrin!” That was the happiest moment of my life.
