Fear of Thinking

I spent the weekend reading philosophy. I read the quote, "thinking means that each time you are confronted with some difficulty in life you have to make up your mind anew," in The Life of the Mind by Hannah Arendt.  The quote inspired the following poem:

Fear of Thinking

I am afraid to think

The pain it causes

The questions that come with no answers

The possibilities that I may have to change

Sometimes, it’s better not to think

Thinking is dangerous

I’d rather be safe, no matter the cost

Because the world may not like my thoughts

And, I may become afraid of myself
